Cyclophil Me 25 mg Capsules contain Cyclosporine, an immunosuppressive drug used primarily to prevent organ rejection after transplants and to treat certain autoimmune conditions.

Description:
  • Generic Name: Cyclosporine

  • Brand Name: Cyclophil Me

  • Strength: 25 mg

  • Dosage Form: Capsule

Indications:

Cyclophil Me 25 mg Capsules are typically prescribed for the following purposes:

  1. Organ Transplantation:

    • To prevent organ rejection in patients who have received a kidney, liver, or heart transplant. Cyclosporine works by suppressing the immune system, which reduces the risk of the body rejecting the transplanted organ.

  2. Autoimmune Disorders:

    • Psoriasis: Cyclosporine is used in severe cases of psoriasis, especially when other treatments have failed. It helps reduce inflammation and the production of abnormal skin cells.

    • Rheumatoid Arthritis: It is sometimes used for severe rheumatoid arthritis in patients who do not respond to other therapies.

    • Other Autoimmune Diseases: Cyclosporine is also used off-label for conditions like uveitis, Crohn's disease, and lupus, though these uses may vary depending on the specific case.

How It Works:

Cyclosporine is a calcineurin inhibitor. It works by inhibiting T-cell activation, a critical part of the immune response. By preventing T-cell activation, Cyclosporine helps to reduce the immune system's ability to attack the transplanted organ or to attack the body’s own tissues in autoimmune diseases.

Possible Side Effects: Common Side Effects:
  1. Headache

  2. Tremors

  3. Nausea or vomiting

  4. Diarrhea

  5. Increased blood pressure (hypertension)

  6. Excessive hair growth (hirsutism)

  7. Swelling or bleeding of gums (gingival hyperplasia)

  8. Fatigue or general weakness

Serious Side Effects:
  1. Kidney damage (nephrotoxicity): Cyclosporine can harm the kidneys, so kidney function must be monitored regularly.

  2. Liver toxicity: Liver function tests are necessary, as Cyclosporine may cause liver damage.

  3. Increased risk of infections: As Cyclosporine suppresses the immune system, it raises the risk of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections.

  4. Cancer risk: Long-term use of Cyclosporine increases the risk of certain cancers, including skin cancer and lymphomas.

  5. Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels): Elevated potassium can cause heart arrhythmias and muscle weakness.

  6. Swollen gums (gingival hyperplasia).

Rare but Serious Side Effects:
  1. Neurotoxicity: Cyclosporine can cause confusion, seizures, and other neurological problems.

  2. Hyperlipidemia: It may cause elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

  3. High blood pressure (hypertension): Cyclosporine may worsen or cause high blood pressure.

Precautions: Kidney and Liver Function: Since Cyclosporine can affect both kidney and liver function, regular tests are necessary to monitor for potential damage.
